Sleep: Evening light

Evening lighting should be minimized to match natural outdoor light levels. Key points for optimal sleep:

  • Reduce indoor lighting when it's dark outside

  • Remove all low-level light sources from bedroom (alarm clocks, light from windows/doors)

  • Use red spectrum lighting when needed

  • If using standard lights, prefer incandescent bulbs at waist height over overhead lighting

Even very low light levels during sleep can negatively impact sleep quality
